     When it comes to the fact that fewer people are dying in automobile crashes in which teenagers were at the wheel, the numbers do not lie.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of fatal car crashes ilnvolving teen drivers has fallen about one-third over a five-year period.  The truth is that the rate of such fatal crashes has been decreasing since 1996.  The reason for this welcome decline can be traced to safer vehicles with air bags, as well as to highway improvements.  Parents can deduce, therefore, that it does make a difference when they purchase (or help their teen children select) the car with the most safety features.

     One night while speaking to a large group of teens taking drivers's education classes I became emotional asking them to please drive carefully because, having lost our daughter at age 7 in a playground accident at her school, I knew how much it hurts to lose a child and didn't want their parents to have to go through this.  All the teens seemed to listen intently and I thought I had made some progress until I got a call at about 10:30pm that same night and found that one of the kids had rolled her car on the way home from my talk!  Teens seem to believe they are invincible so help them purchase the safest care you can afford.
